Mrs. Susan C. Mears graduated from The Florida State University with a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance. From there, she continued her education at the University of Wisconsin where she earned The Master of Music degree.
Immediately after college, Mrs. Mears joined the faculty at Converse College in Spartanburg, SC, as an adjunct violin instructor and Pre-College teacher for approximately one year. During that time, she auditioned for and became a full-time member of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra (CSO). After relocating to Charleston, her next ten years were spent as a violinist with the CSO. While performing and teaching privately, a request came from the Charleston County School of the Arts to fill in as the String Teacher for the remainder of the year. By the end of that school year, she was offered a full-time faculty position and has served as the Middle School Orchestra Director ever since..
Mrs. Mears began playing the violin at age 5, and actually began teaching students at the age of 12 when she was asked to help the beginning 6th grade students in her middle school orchestra. From that point on, she knew that teaching would be a big part of her life. During Mrs. Mears' career, she has performed with several professional orchestras throughout the United States and Europe, and studied with many renowned musicians.
Susan grew up in Athens, GA, where her late father, Dr. John Corina, was a Professor of Music at The University of Georgia for 25 years.
